House of Lords back to business on 5 October

The House of Lords will sit from 2.30pm on Tuesday 5 October following the end of summer recess.

Business will start with Oral Questions. The Local Government Bill  will receive its third reading. Members will also debate the role of charities in strengthening society.

A number of new Members of the House of Lords are due to make their maiden speeches during the debate.

The term ‘maiden speech’ refers to the first time a new Member gives a speech in the House of the Lords. A maiden speech usually takes place during a general debate and is uncontroversial.

Members of the public can attend House of Lords debates and follow proceedings from the public gallery.
