Baroness Hayman, the Lord Speaker, visited Old Buckenham High School in Attleborough, Norfolk on Friday 19 November to talk about working life in Westminster

The visit was the latest event in the House of Lords outreach programme that aims engage people with the parliamentary system to build strong relationships between the public and Parliament. Peers in Schools particularly aims to get young people and Members talking to each other.

Lord Speaker spoke to around 100 year 10 students – 16 and 17 year olds – about the work of the House of Lords, how laws are made and how the Lords holds the Government to account. Pupils then had the opportunity to question Baroness Hayman on all aspects of Parliament.

Commenting ahead of her visit, Baroness Hayman said:

'I am delighted to visit a school in my local area and talk to students about the very important work we do in Parliament. I very much hope that meeting with students at Old Buckenham High School will help to make events in Westminster less remote and more real for them.'
