Parliament holds Bill workshop on welfare reform

Parliamentary Outreach is to provide a free legislation workshop for groups and organisations interested in welfare reform.
The event will be held on Monday 29 November 2010 and will be introduced by the Speaker of the House of Commons, the Rt Hon John Bercow MP.
The workshop is being held as part of Parliament’s efforts to encourage engagement with legislative scrutiny and will focus on the different ways to track and influence the progress of a Bill.
Each of the Public Bill workshops organised by Parliamentary Outreach is based around a different subject area. Previous workshops have looked at Public Bills in the context of education, energy and the green economy and localism.
What the Public Bill workshop will look at
The workshop will include presentations on:
- submitting evidence to a Public Bill Committee in the Commons
- engaging with members of the Lords as they consider the Welfare Reform Bill
- accessing House of Commons Library research on welfare reform
- tracking the progress of the Welfare Reform Bill online
- understanding secondary legislation
Experts from the Houses of Parliament will be on hand to answer any questions on the parliamentary scrutiny of a Bill.
Where and when
The event will take place at Portcullis House in the Houses of Parliament and runs from 10am to 12.30pm (registration from 9.30am).
