Lord Wallace of Saltaire, government spokesperson for the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, introduced the debate.

Members discussed and agreed amendments to clause 1: Consents required for civil service compensation scheme modifications; clause 2: Limits on value of benefits provided under civil service compensation; clause 3: Final Provisions; and the title of the Bill.

Committee stage involves the detailed line-by-line examination of the separate parts - clauses and schedules - of the Bill. Any Member of the Lords can take part.

Committee stage can last for one or two days to eight or more. It usually starts no fewer than two weeks after the second reading.
