Urgent question on socio-economic equality duty

Minister for Equalities, Lynne Featherstone, responded to an urgent question from Fiona Mactaggart, Shadow Equalities Minister, asking the Government to make a statement on its intention not to implement section 1 of the Equalities Act 2010. The socio-economic duty, section 1 of the Equality Act, sets out a legal duty on key public bodies, including central government and local authorities, to ensure they consider the impact that their strategic decisions will have on narrowing socio-economic inequalities.
