Police Reform and Social Responsibility Bill

The Government's Police Reform and Social Responsibility Bill was introduced into the House of Commons on 30 November 2010. The Bill proposes to replace police authorities with directly elected Police and Crime Commissioners, with the aim of improving police accountability.

The Bill had its second reading on 13 December 2010 and was then considered by a Public Bill Committee. Report stage took place on 30 and 31 March and the Bill also received a third reading. The Bill is now being considered by the House of Lords.
