Newcastle to host Parliament workshop on engaging with proposed laws
14 April 2011
Are you interested in finding out how you can have your say on a proposed law that is progressing through Parliament?
The Houses of Parliament is to provide a free workshop on 10 June for groups, organisations and individuals interested in how to engage with Parliament’s scrutiny of legislation.
The event is being held as part of Parliament’s efforts to encourage more groups and individuals to engage with its work, and will be run by staff from the Parliamentary Outreach service.
What the Public Bill workshop will look at
The workshop will include:
- How Parliament scrutinises Bills (proposed laws)
- Engaging with MPs and members of the House of Lords as they consider Bills
- Submitting evidence to a Public Bill Committee in the House of Commons
- Using sources of key information, such as the Parliament website, and House of Commons Library
- Tracking the progress of Bills online
Experts from the Houses of Parliament will be on hand to answer questions on Parliament’s work.
The workshop is free to attend, and open to any individual or organisation interested in how Parliament passes laws.
This workshop will be of use for people who work in the private, public and voluntary sectors, as well as individuals with an interest in Parliament.
Where and when
