Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, moved a debate in the House of Commons on Tuesday 6 December on the economy and the 2011 Autumn Statement.
Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer, Ed Balls responded to the debate on behalf of the Government. At the end of the debate, the question was put that the House had considered the matter of the economy. The House divided (voted) and the question was negatived on division (Ayes: 79, Noes 213).

Autumn Statement 2011
The debate follows the Chancellor's Autumn Statement to the House of Commons on Tuesday 29 November. The Chancellor will also give evidence on the Autumn Statement to the House of Commons Treasury Select Committee on Wednesday 7 December at 2.15pm.
