Fisheries council statement

Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Richard Benyon, made a statement in the House of Commons on Monday 19 December on the outcome of the Agriculture and Fisheries Council meeting which took place on 15-16 December.
Agriculture and Fisheries Council
The Agriculture and Fisheries Council brings together ministers from all EU Member States responsible for agriculture and fisheries in the European Union. Together they negotiate and adopt legislation.
The Fisheries Council met on 15-16 December and agreed changes to the number of fishing days and the total allowable catch.
Total allowable catches (TACs) are catch limits that are set for most significant commercial fish stocks. TACs are proposed by the Commission on the basis of scientific advice on the state of the stocks concerned and decided on by the Council of Fisheries Ministers.
