Parliament workshop on Bills to be held in Leeds

Spaces are still available on the free workshop, organised by Parliamentary Outreach, for individuals and organisations interested in finding out how to follow and engage with Public Bills.

The workshop will be held at the University of Leeds on Thursday 24 February, as part of Parliament’s efforts to encourage engagement with legislative scrutiny and will focus on the different ways to track and influence the progress of Public Bills.

Experts from the Houses of Parliament will be on hand to answer questions on legislative procedure and how campaigners can best make their voice heard as Parliament makes new laws.

What the Public Bill workshop will look at

The workshop will include presentations on:

• Understanding legislation in the House of Commons
  David Natzler, Clerk of Legislation, House of Commons
  
• Engaging with MPs on a Bill
  John Battle, MP for Leeds West, 1987-2010
  
• Engaging with legislation in the House of Lords
  Håvar Ellingsen, Hansard Reporter, House of Lords

There will also be information on using the Parliament website to track the progress of a Bill and finding House of Commons Library research on proposed legislation.

Where and when

The event will take place at the School of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Leeds and runs from 1.30 to 4.30pm on Thursday 24 February 2011. Registration will take place from 1pm.
