Westminster Hall debates provide MPs with an opportunity to debate local or national issues and to receive a response from a government Minister.

09.30-11.00 Government strategy on conflict prevention

Simon Hughes, Liberal Democrat MP for Bermondsey and Old Southwark, moved a debate on how aid can be spent strategically to help end conflicts around the world. This received an answer from Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, Henry Bellingham.

11.00-12.30 Young runaways and sexual exploitation

Ann Coffey, Labour MP for Stockport, moved a debate on the number of teenagers who run away from home and end up being sexually exploited. This received an answer from Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Education, Tim Loughton. 

12.30 -13.00 Regulation and governance of football clubs: the case of Leeds United

Damian Collins, Conservative MP for Folkestone and Hythe, moved a debate on the rules regarding the insolvency of football clubs.  This received an answer from Minister for Sport and the Olympics, Hugh Robertson.  

13.00-13.30 Assessments of social and emotional capabilities of the 0-5 year olds

Graham Allen, Labour MP for Nottingham North, moved a debate on assessing the social and emotional capabilities of the nought to five-year-olds. This received an answer from Minister of State, Department for Education, Sarah Teather.   

13.30-14.00 Heritage and preservation and Wicksteed Park, Kettering

Philip Hollobone, Conservative MP Kettering, moved a debate on celebrating the 90th anniversary of Wicksteed Park in Kettering. This received an answer from Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Culture, Olympics, Media and Sport, John Penrose. 

Westminster Hall debates

Westminster Hall adjournment debates allow MPs to discuss issues of local or personal interest which rarely have time to be debated in the main Chamber of the House of Commons. MPs can discuss a variety of issues and receive a response from a government Minister.
