On 1 March, St. David’s Day, the Speaker was presented with a vase of daffodils on the steps of Speaker’s House by children from the London Welsh School (Ysgol Gymraeg Llundain).

The presentation was followed by the annual bilingual service to mark St David’s Day in Westminster.

Hywel Williams MP for Arfon and Rhian Medi Roberts (of his parliamentary staff) organised this service, with the help of Speaker’s Chaplain, Revd Rose Hudson-Wilkin.

MPs and Peers from different political parties take part every year. This year’s participants included the Secretary of State for Wales, the rt Hon Cheryl Gillan, Lord Roberts of Llandudno and Susan Elan Jones MP, who delivered biblical and poetic readings.

The children from the London Welsh School sang and recited a poem. A newly-formed Welsh male voice choir, Eschoir, finalists of the Welsh Choir of the Year 2011, sang two songs acapella.  The guest preacher was Revd David Jones from Llanelli.
