Secretary of State for Defence, Liam Fox, responded to an urgent question asked by Shadow Secretary of State for Defence, Jim Murphy, on the subject of redundancies in the armed forces.

Watch and read the response to the urgent question and find current parliamentary material on the armed forces in the Topics section of the Parliament website.

Urgent questions

Urgent questions are asked at the end of Question Time. If something has happened, normally a matter of public importance, which an MP believes requires an immediate answer from a government minister, he may apply to the Speaker to ask an urgent question.

If the Speaker agrees, the question will be asked at the end of Question Time.
