Financial Secretary to the Treasury, Mark Hoban responded to an urgent question asked by William Cash, Conservative MP for Stone, on the subject of recent political and financial events in Portugal.

Watch and read the response to the urgent question and find current parliamentary material on the economy and finance and the European Union in the Topics section of the Parliament website.

Urgent questions

Urgent questions are asked at the end of Question Time. If something has happened, normally a matter of public importance, which an MP believes requires an immediate answer from a government minister, he may apply to the Speaker to ask an urgent question.

If the Speaker agrees, the question will be asked at the end of Question Time.
