Workshop on engaging with proposed laws in Parliament

Parliamentary Outreach is to provide a free workshop, which is now fully subscribed, for groups and organisations interested engaging with Public Bills at the Houses of Parliament on 4 May.

What the Public Bill workshop will look at

The workshop will include:

• Presentation on understanding legislation in the House of Commons
  Huw Edwards, MP for Monmouth, 1991-92, 1997-2005
• Panel discussion on engaging with MPs on a Bill
  Including Natascha Engel, MP for North East Derbyshire and Chair of the Backbench Business Committee
• Presentation on understanding legislation in the House of Lords
  Lord Kirkwood of Kirkhope, Chairman of the Information Committee, House of Lords
• Panel discussion on engaging with Lords on a Bill
  Including Lord Norton of Louth and Baroness Thornton of Manningham

There will also be information stands and experts from the Houses of Parliament on hand to answer questions on subjects including submitting evidence to a Public Bill Committee, finding House of Commons Library research on legislation and tracking a Bill on the Parliament website

Where and when

The event will take place at Portcullis House in the Houses of Parliament and runs from 1.30pm to 4.30pm, with registration from 1pm, on Wednesday 4 May 2011.
