The debate was held in response to the publication of the Foreign Affairs Committee report on the implications of cuts to the BBC World Service as well as the Culture, Media and Sport Committee report on the BBC licence fee settlement and annual report.

Backbench Business Committee
The House of Commons established the Backbench Business Committee on 15 June 2010. The Committee has responsibility for scheduling debates that are devoted to backbench business in the House of Commons Chamber and Westminster Hall.
