Lord Speaker takes part in charitable challenge

From 2-6 May the Lord Speaker, Baroness Hayman, takes part in a charitable challenge to live on £1 a day for all food and drink, along with fellow Members of the Lords including Baroness Jenkin of Kennington, Lord McConnell of Glenscorrodale, Baroness Jolly and Baroness Morris of Bolton, raising awareness to support those living in extreme poverty.
The Lord Speaker commented:
“The global campaign Live Below the Line draws attention to the 1.4 billion people who have no choice but to live off this amount every day.
“This campaign is special as it gets to the heart of the issue in a very direct way and involves a challenge in which anyone can participate. In my role representing the House of Lords, I have had the opportunity to visit some of the countries where this level of poverty is the norm, and I am therefore pleased to be able to take part in this extremely worthwhile initiative.”
