Speaker marks centenary of 1911 Parliament Act

In celebration of the centenary of the 1911 Parliament Act and Parliament Week, the Speaker Rt Hon John Bercow MP, is giving a lecture at 6:00pm on Thursday 3 November at the Guildhall’s Livery Hall in London.

The event, hosted by the Hansard Society in collaboration with the City of London will discuss the reforms Parliament has seen since 1911.  Other panellists include Professor the Lord Desai, Professor Lord Hennessy of Nympsfield and Michael Cockerell.

The Speaker’s speech will examine the fundamental themes behind the events of 1911 and the act itself, the fundamental challenges for the House of Commons and for all legislatures in modern democracies, and the role of select committees and what should be their remit and powers.
