Statement on coastguard modernisation

Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Transport, Mike Penning, made a statement to the House of Commons on Tuesday 22 November on coastguard modernisation.
Coastguard modernisation
The Government launched a consultation on its proposals for modernising the coastguard service on 16 December 2010. The consultation closed on 5 May 2011. The Government announced a second consultation on the specific changes the Government wished to take forward. The consultation ran from 14 July 2011 to 6 October 2011.
The Secretary of State for Transport made a statement in the House of Commons on 14 July 2011 outlining the Government's conclusions on taking forward the process of coastguard modernisation.
The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Transport announced in his statement to the House of Commons on 22 November 2011 the Government's final decisions about coastguard modernisation in light of the responses to the second consultation.
Shadow Minister for Transport, Jim Fitzpatrick, responded to the statement on behalf of the Opposition.
