Serjeant at Arms to retire

The Serjeant at Arms, Jill Pay, has announced her decision to retire from the House Service. She has written to Her Majesty The Queen regarding relinquishing her formal duties as Serjeant at Arms, to enable transitional arrangements to begin.
In a letter to the Speaker she described her service in the House of Commons as ‘the most exciting, challenging and rewarding period of her career’. Thanking her for her service the Speaker said she could take great satisfaction from the contribution she has made in her 17 years at the House of Commons, in particular pointing to the fact she was the first female Serjeant.
