Westminster Hall debates provide MPs with an opportunity to debate local or national issues and to receive a response from a government Minister.

Five debates were held in Westminster Hall on 12 October 2011.

09.30-11.00 Ovarian cancer 

Stuart Andrew, Conservative MP for Pudsey, moved a debate on ovarian cancer which received an answer from the Minister of State for Care Services, Paul Burstow.

11.00-11.30 Innovation in the NHS

John Glen, Conservative MP for Salisbury, moved a debate on innovation in the NHS which received an answer from the Minister of State for Health, Simon Burns.

14.30-16.00 Disabled access to public transport 

Lisa Nandy, Labour MP for Wigan, moved a debate on disabled access to public transport which received an answer from the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Transport, Mike Penning.

16.00-16.30 Violence against women and girls 

Caroline Lucas, Green MP for Brighton, Pavilion, moved a debate on preventing violence against women and girls which received an answer from the Minister of State for Equalities, Lynne Featherstone.

16.30-17.00 Commonwealth partners

Andrew Percy, Conservative MP for Brigg and Goole, moved a debate on sharing of resources and co-operation with Commonwealth partners which received an answer from the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, Henry Bellingham.

Westminster Hall debates

Westminster Hall adjournment debates allow MPs to discuss issues of local or personal interest which rarely have time to be debated in the main Chamber of the House of Commons. MPs can discuss a variety of issues and receive a response from a government Minister.
