Key works of art, design and furniture from the Parliamentary Collections will be on display as part of a major new exhibition at the National Maritime Museum.

Works of art include the portraits of Sir Charles Barry and A.W.N. Pugin which usually hang in the Pugin Room. A dramatic painting of the Houses of Parliament on fire in 1834 by David Roberts and an original design by Barry for the New Palace of Westminster are also included.

The exhibition covers the history of the Thames as a site for royal spectacle and ceremony and marks the Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty the Queen.

Royal River: Power, Pageantry and the Thames opens to the public on 27 April 2012.
