Home Secretary, Theresa May, responded to an urgent question asked by Shadow Home Secretary, Yvette Cooper in the House of Commons on 19 April on Abu Qatada

The Home Secretary explained to the MPs that on Wednesday 18 April, Abu Qatada appealed to the European Court of Human Rights against being deported to Jordan. The Government dispute that the appeal was submitted within the Court's deadline.
The Home Secretary made an oral statement in the House of Commons on Tuesday 17 April. A Written Ministerial Statement was also published by the Home Secretary on Thursday 19 April.

Urgent questions
Urgent questions are asked at the end of Question Time. If something has happened, normally a matter of public importance, which an MP believes requires an immediate answer from a government minister, they may apply to the Speaker to ask an urgent question.
If the Speaker agrees, the question will be asked at the end of Question Time.
