Commons financial privilege
9 February 2012 (updated on 9 February 2012)
On Wednesday 1 February the House of Commons considered Lords amendments to the Welfare Reform Bill.
The Commons disagreed to Lords Amendments 1-4, 15, 17, 18, 23, 26, 47 and 73 because it would alter the financial arrangements made by the Commons to the Bill. This is known as Commons financial privilege.
The Clerk of the House and the Clerk of Legislation have prepared a note to explain Commons financial privilege and its effects. Also available is a list of occasions in which Commons financial privilege has been waived.
