MPs debate police grant report

Minister for Policing and Criminal Justice, Nick Herbert, moved a motion to approve the Police Grant Report (England and Wales) for 2012-13 on Wednesday 8 February.
Police Grant Report
The House of Commons approved the Police Grant Report (England and Wales) for 2012-13 after a division (Ayes 298; Noes 228). Shadow Secretary of State for the Home Department, Yvette Cooper responded in the debate on behalf of the Opposition.
The Police Grant Report sets out the Home Secretary’s determination for the financial year 2012/13 the amount of grant allocated to each police authority in England and Wales for police purposes.
The Police Act 1996 states that the Home Secretary shall determine the grants for police authorities and prepare a report to be laid before the House of Commons.
No payment of grant can be made unless the report has been approved by the House of Commons.
