Andrew Lansley, Secretary of State for Health, made a statement in the House of Commons on Wednesday 4 July on the NHS annual report and care objectives.

NHS annual report

The Secretary of State for Health has published his first annual report to Parliament on the health service, alongside the report on the NHS constitution and the draft mandate to the NHS Commissioning Board. These documents can be found on the Department of Health website.

Shadow Secretary of State for Health, Andy Burnham, responded to the statement on behalf of the Opposition.

Oral statements

Oral statements are made after Question Time (or at 11am on a Friday). Statements normally relate to matters of policy or government actions. At the end of a statement, MPs can respond or question the government minister on its contents.
