Ceramic flower garden blooms outside Parliament

A unique ceramic installation, created by artist Paul Cummins, today kicks off Arts in Parliament, a programme of free art, music, dance, and theatre events taking place in the historic Houses of Parliament during the summer of 2012.

Working with artists and cultural partners from across the UK, the programme provides a new platform for creative expression and celebrates the diverse cultural fabric of the UK. Arts in Parliament features new and existing works, many of which are also a part of the nationwide London 2012 Festival and Cultural Olympiad.

Ceramic Flower Garden - Houses of Parliament

Ceramics artist Paul Cummins is one of 29 commissions for the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad Unlimited programme that encourages collaborations and partnerships between disability arts organisations, disabled and deaf artists, producers and mainstream organisations to celebrate the inspiration of the Olympic and Paralympic Games and to create original and exciting works.

Paul was commissioned to create six unique pop-up gardens in places of historical importance across the UK. The Ceramic Flower Garden outside the Houses of Parliament on Cromwell Green features red and white roses which recall the Pugin rose motif that is used extensively in the Houses of Parliament, and tulips which were selected to represent faith and trust.

The Ceramic Country Garden can be seen until 25 August.
