Commons seek lay members to reinforce Standards Committee

The House of Commons is looking for up to three lay members, who cannot be MPs, former MPs or members of the House of Lords, to serve on the Committee on Standards.

Committee on Standards

The Committee’s duties include considering reports from the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards on his or her investigations into complaints that MPs have breached the Code of Conduct or the rules relating to the conduct of MPs.

The part-time lay members will be remunerated at £300 per day, plus reimbursement of reasonable expenses.

Successful candidates will have;

  • the ability to sift complex evidence and to reach a reasoned judgement
  • discretion
  • resilience
  • an understanding of the work of elected Members. 

Applications are invited from people from any background, including the voluntary, public and private sectors and from any part of the United Kingdom.
