Statement on the Falkland Islands referendum

Minister of State for Europe, David Lidington, made a statement in the House of Commons on Wednesday 13 June on the referendum to be held by the Falkland Islands Government on the Islands political status

Falkland Islands

The Falkland Islands Government have announced that there will be a referendum which will take place in the first half of 2013. The 14 June 2012 marks the 30th anniversary of the end of the Falklands conflict.

Shadow Minister for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, John Spellar, responded to the statement on behalf of the Opposition.
