Lord Speaker visits Haslemere U3A

Baroness D'Souza spoke to regional members of the University of the Third Age in the UK on Friday 30 March as part of an ongoing events programme for U3A members.

The meeting started at 1.30pm in Haslemere Hall, Surrey. The Lord Speaker gave a 20-minute speech about the role of the House of Lords within the parliamentary system, followed by a question and answer session. Around 250 U3A members attended the event.

The House of Commons' Mr Speaker, John Bercow MP, also attended and spoke at the event. Other attendees included: Ian Searle, National U3A Chairman, Ian Stephenson, Secretary of the NE Hants/SW Surrey Region, James Edwards, Haslemere Town Mayor.

About U3A

U3As are self-help, self-managed lifelong learning co-operatives for people who are no longer in full time work. They provide opportunities for their members to share learning experiences in a wide range of interest groups and to pursue learning for fun.

Haslemere U3A is an offshoot of Farnham U3A and have a membership of 357 to date. Its programme covers 21 different subjects.
