The House of Commons considered various motions relating to select committees on Monday 12 March.
Backbench Business Committee
The first motion relating to the Backbench Business Committee moved that the House "endorses the principle that parties should elect members of the Backbench Business Committee each Session and thereafter when a vacancy arises in a secret ballot of all Members of that party by whichever transparent and democratic method they choose."
The House divided (voted) and the motion was agreed to on division. (Ayes: 203, Noes: 82).

Committee on Standards and Committee of Privilages
Following the motion on the Backbench Business Committee, The House considered new Standing Orders relating to the creation, and appointment of members to, two new select committees, a Committee on Standards and a Committee of Privilages.
