Speaker presents donation to Help a Capital Child

On 29 February, the Speaker, John Bercow MP, presented a cheque for £4,594 to Dalton Leong, Managing Director of Help a Capital Child on behalf of MPs and Parliamentary staff who raised the money by attending the New Year's Eve event on the House of Commons Terrace.

The annual event saw entertainment on the night provided by the band MP4 which is made up of Kevin Brennan MP, former MP Ian Cawsey, the Rt Hon Greg Knight MP and Pete Wishart MP.

The Speaker extended his thanks and appreciation to all the House staff that made the New Year's Eve event possible, especially staff in the Serjeant at Arms, security and Catering and Retail, who worked on the night and made the event such a success.

Help a Capital Child helps disadvantaged young people in across London. It supports children and young people affected by abuse, homelessness, disability, poverty and illness. The New Year's Eve 2010 event on the House of Commons Terrace raised £4,160 for the charity.
