Lucy Powell of the Labour Party has become Member of Parliament for Manchester Central after winning the by-election held in that constituency on 15 November 2012

Manchester Central by-election

The Manchester Central by-election was called after the former MP, Tony Lloyd, was appointed to the office of Steward and Bailiff of Her Majesty's Manor of Northstead on 22 October 2012 - the means by which an MP disqualifies themselves in order to resign - so that he could stand as a candidate in the election of police and crime commissioners, also held on 15 November 2012.
