Lords chamber event 2012 - The Big Care Debate

Who should be responsible for providing support to the vulnerable in our society? This question will be debated at the sixth annual House of Lords chamber event on Friday 7 December 2012.
The Big Care Debate is the latest event in the House of Lords outreach programme that aims to raise awareness of the role and work of the Lords.
The Lord Speaker, Baroness D’Souza, will chair the debate which will focus on social care and how our society should treat its most vulnerable members. Specifically, it will highlight how different generations are affected by social care policies and the options for improving the environment for those most in need.
The House of Lords is working with The English Speaking Union (ESU), the University of the Third Age (U3A) and a number of schools from around the country to deliver the debate.
The ESU is training three inter-generational teams to lead on a separate debate option each, covering the involvement of the state, the family and the third -sector in providing social care. Each team will also receive assistance from a mentor member of the House of Lords.
