Following the House of Commons Commission's decision in June that the Clock Tower should be renamed the Elizabeth Tower, House of Commons Speaker Rt Hon John Bercow MP unveiled a new name plaque to mark the change at a short ceremony on Speaker’s Green on Wednesday 12 September.

The House of Commons Commission welcomed the proposal to rename the Clock Tower Elizabeth Tower in recognition of HM The Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

Mr Speaker said,

"Her Majesty has visited Parliament three times this year, and it is fitting that the House of Commons is acknowledging her 60 years of dedication to public service in this way."

Tobias Ellwood, MP for Bournemouth East, originally proposed the idea of naming the Clock Tower in an Early Day Motion.
