Lord Speaker meets politics students

The Lord Speaker, Baroness D'Souza, welcomed students from the University of Hull's Politics department to the House of Lords on Tuesday 17 December.
The students were attending a reception hosted by Lord Norton of Louth (Conservative), Professor of Government at the University of Hull. For the past 25 years the university has had a degree dedicated to British politics and students have the opportunity to spend their third year on a placement at Westminster.
Baroness D'Souza spoke to the students about the work of the House of Lords and her duties as Lord Speaker - presiding over business in the chamber and acting as an ambassador for the Lords in the UK and beyond.
She also explained her growing regional outreach programme, designed to engage with people from all over the UK and spoke about Peers in Schools - an outreach initiative that aims to engage young people with parliamentary democracy.
