The House of Lords debated two private members' bills on Friday 6 December, covering online safety and hereditary titles
A private member's bill is a type of public bill (that affects the public). Private members' bills must go through the same set of procedures as other public bills. These two private members' bills were first introduced in the House of Lords.
Online Safety Bill: Second reading
Lords discussed the key features of the bill, including an opt-in system to view adult content online, and the provision of education for parents about online safety. Lords highlighted concerns around the range of devices that can be used to access online content, and how filters could be placed on these.

Equality (Titles) Bill: Committee stage
Peers discussed the definition of a ‘title’ and whether female heirs should be eligible to succeed to hereditary peerages or hereditary titles.
