House of Commons Library analysis

The House of Commons Library produces briefing papers to inform MPs of key issues. The papers contain factual information and a range of opinions on each subject, and aim to be politically impartial.

The Library has published a briefing paper on the controls in place to ensure any horse meat entering the food chain is fit for human consumption, including details of horse passports.

Oral statements

Oral statements are made after Question Time (or at 11am on a Friday) and after any Urgent Questions.

Statements normally relate to matters of policy or government actions. At the end of a statement, MPs can respond or question the government minister on its contents.
