Lords discussed the potential opt-out, and the individual measures that could be re-joined after the opt-out. A member put forward an amendment to the motion, this suggested the Lords wait to give an opinion on the opt-out until the government:
- gives a written response to a report from the European Union Committee about the potential opt-out – EU police and criminal justice measures: The UK’s 2014 opt-out decision
- seeks endorsement for the list of measures the UK should seek to re-join
The amendment was later withdrawn and a vote on whether the Lords endorsed the government’s opt-out resulted in 216 for and 104 against.
