Lord Speaker meets Russian delegation

The Lord Speaker, Baroness D'Souza, met Valentina Matvienko, President of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, today (Wednesday 12 June).
The programme included a round table discussion with several members of both Houses. Mrs Matvienko was accompanied by four senators and the Russian Ambassador to the UK, Mr Alexander Yakovenko.
Topics discussed included Syria and the Middle East peace process, democratic reform and drugs policy, as well as plans for Russia’s G20 Presidency, the next Winter Olympics, to be held in Sochi, and the 2014 UK/Russia Year of Culture.
