Death of Lord Fraser of Carmyllie

Conservative life peer Lord Fraser of Carmyllie has died aged 68.
Lord Fraser of Carmyllie joined the House in 1989, holding a series of ministerial posts in the departments of Energy (1996-97), Trade and Industry (1995-97) and in the Scottish Office (1992-95). He was also a member of several committees, including the Lords EU Sub-Committee on Justice and Institutions and the Joint Committee on Human Rights. He last spoke in the Lords chamber on 5 December 2012, during the third reading of the Financial Services Bill.
He was an MP between 1979-87 (South Angus, later Angus East) and appointed Solicitor-General of Scotland in 1982. He became Lord Advocate, Scotland's most senior law officer, in 1989 and began the investigation into the Lockerbie bombing.
Lord Fraser of Carmyllie was a council member of the Royal Scottish National Opera and chairman of the Anglo-Azerbaijani and British-Kazakh societies.
