2013 Budget debate on housing

Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Eric Pickles, opened the concluding debate on the Budget, on the subject of housing, in the House of Commons on Monday 25 March 2013

Shadow Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Hilary Benn, responded on behalf of the Opposition.

Budget debates

The debates following the Budget statement continued over three days on Thursday 21, Friday 22 and Monday 25 March. Each day focused on a given topic.

At the end of the debate on Monday 25 March, MPs were asked to approve a series of Ways and Means Resolutions.

The first motion on the Amendment of the Law was agreed to. (Division No. 196, 299 votes to 243)

A further three resolutions were voted on. The other resolutions were agreed 'on question' without a vote. 

A Finance Bill is required to give permanent legal effect to the Resolutions. The Finance Bill (No. 2) 2012-13 was presented on Monday 25 March, and is expected to be published on Thursday 28 March.
