2013 Budget debate on work and pensions

Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Iain Duncan Smith, opened the continuing debate on the Budget, on the subject of work and pensions, in the House of Commons on Friday 22 March 2013.
Shadow Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Liam Byrne, responded on behalf of the Opposition.

Budget debates
The debates following the Budget statement continued over three days on Thursday 21, Friday 22 and Monday 25 March. Each day focused on a given topic. At the end of the debate on Monday 25 March, MPs were asked to approve a series of Ways and Means Resolutions.

A Finance Bill is required to give permanent legal effect to the Resolutions. The Finance Bill (No. 2) 2012-13 was presented on Monday 25 March, and is expected to be published on Thursday 28 March.
