Members of the Lords, including a patron of the Conservative Christian Fellowship, a Methodist minister and a number of Church of England Bishops, discussed ResPublica's July 2013 report: Holistic Missions: Social action and the Church of England, on Thursday 21 November

Debate revolved around the ResPublica report’s central argument that ‘a nation cannot thrive and progress purely as a result of the success or otherwise of the market or the government,’ and ways in which the Church of England could restructure its social action work.

Lords discussed how the Church of England, and other religious institutions, could become more involved in social and community initiatives, including food banks, debt counselling, education provision and health support. Peers also looked at how the Church of England has evolved over time and ways the Church and the government could better work together.
