Members of the Lords discussed government plans to review the supervision of security services on Thursday 7 November.

The debate focused on the impact of technology, the pace of change compared to the UK’s legislative process, and freedom and security of the internet.

Lords considered whether there are ways to improve how security services are subject to Parliamentary oversight, and whether there can be more supervision over the work of the UK’s security agencies.

Peers also discussed how acts of Parliament could keep up with the pace of technology, and looked at options for dealing with this, including the establishment of a committee process to look at the way the rapid change in science and technology affects legislation.
