Lord Speaker visits Oxford

The Lord Speaker, Baroness D'Souza, visited Oxford on Thursday 10 and Friday 11 October. Her trip was part of an ongoing outreach programme designed to increase public awareness of, and engagement with, the House of Lords.
Thursday 10 October
The Lord Speaker gave a lecture on the work of the House of Lords, and its role in the parliamentary process at Oxford Brookes University.
Dr Michael Lister, Reader in Politics, organised the event and the Lord Speaker was introduced by the university's Pro Vice-Chancellor, Professor Anne-Marie Kilday.
Following the talk, there was an opportunity for the audience to ask questions from the floor. Baroness D'Souza answered on subjects including the differences between the US and UK systems of government and what improvements might be made to the House of Lords. She also explained the key differences between the roles of the Lord Speaker in the House of Lords and the Speaker in the House of Commons.

Baroness D'Souza made a Peers in Schools visit to Chipping Norton School.
