Parliament and NATO Assembly host seminar on security issues

Are you interested in defence or security issues? Parliament's Outreach Service in partnership with the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, is to hold a seminar that will discuss the role and work of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly
The free seminar will take place in York on Saturday 9 November 2013, from 10am to 12.30pm.
About the event
Britain faces a number of security challenges including: global conflicts, securing food and energy supplies, ensuring a stable economy, understanding changes in science and technology, and protecting a stable democracy.
How should these challenges be addressed? By individual nations or alliances such as NATO? How should alliances be arranged? And how should they act?
This seminar will consider all these issues and more, including:
- The role of NATO and the NATO Parliamentary Assembly
- The need for collective security action
- How collective security issues are addressed by NATO

- Hugh Bayley MP, Member for York Central and Chair of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly
- Lord Jopling former Government Minister and member of the UK delegation to the Assembly
- Brigadier Greville Bibby, Commander of the 15th Brigade, British Army
- David Hobbs, Secretary General of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly

The event will take place on Saturday 9 November, from 10am to 12.30pm at the Officers Mess, Imphal Barracks, York YO10 4HD. Please be aware that security searches will be in place at this venue; further guidance will be made available to attendees.
