Speaker meets with UK and Ireland Counterparts

The Speaker of the House of Commons, Rt Hon John Bercow MP, this week attended a regular meeting of speakers and presiding officers from the UK and Ireland, hosted by the Speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly, Speaker William Hay MLA.

Following discussions in Belfast, the Speaker accompanied Mr Hay to his Foyle constituency and visited the Foyle View School, which was a runner up in the Speaker’s School Council Awards in 2011.

On Monday evening in a unique event, Speaker Bercow, Speaker Hay, Seán Barrett TD, the Ceann Comhairle of Dáil Éireann and Tricia Marwick MSP, Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament took part in a panel event hosted by The Northern Ireland Assembly Legislative Strengthening Trust (NIALST) in the Great Hall at the Northern Ireland Assembly at Stormont.
