Lord Speaker takes part in Open House London

The Lord Speaker, Baroness D'Souza can be heard this weekend (21-22 September) as one of the contributors featured in Side by Side, a sound installation created especially for Open House London in Parliament Square.
About Side by Side
Side by Side, commissioned by the Houses of Parliament and the Hansard Society, was created by sound artist and musician Jonny Pilcher.
The commission is inspired by the four key buildings in Parliament Square - the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, the Supreme Court and HM Treasury. It gives a fascinating insight into the day-to-day workings of Parliament Square and what it means to the people who work there. Speaking about the piece, the artist says:
“I wanted to tell the story of what goes on inside these iconic buildings, how the work within these buildings impacts on our daily lives and most of all that the buildings are full of a range of passionate people doing interesting, unusual and important jobs.”
The piece can be heard throughout the weekend outside the Jewel Tower at quarter-past and quarter-to the hour, and outside the Supreme Court and in Parliament Square on the hour and half-past the hour.
About Open House London
Open House London is an annual event giving the public the chance to see inside over 600 architecturally significant buildings which are not generally freely open to all. It aims to raise awareness of great buildings and invites people to understand, explore and appreciate architecture in London.
This year's Open House London takes place on 21 - 22 September.
- Saturday 21 September: The atrium and first floor of Portcullis House will be open from 10am - 5pm
- Sunday 22 September: Westminster Hall through to Central Lobby will be open from 10am - 5pm
Visitors to Parliament during Open House weekend have the chance to attend talks by experts including architects, engineers, archivists and clock mechanics. Members of staff from various departments, including the Lords Information Office, will also be on hand to talk about their work and answer any questions.
