One of the ways the House of Lords scrutinises and challenges the work of the government is through written questions.

Every week during the summer recess, Lords Hansard publishes written answers online to questions submitted by members of the Lords.

Subjects for written statements and answers published on Monday 22 September included:

  • Academies and free schools
  • Asylum: Iraq
  • Cycleways: Greater London
  • Equal pay
  • Gambling: Internet
  • Merlin helicopters
  • Military aircraft
  • Police and Crime Commissioners
  • Russia
  • Sudan
  • Syria.

Throughout the summer recess members of the House of Lords continue to submit questions for written answer, which are then sent to the government on the 'tabling days’ scheduled throughout the summer recess.
